MediaDailyNews 01-16-04 Yahoo reports on their profitable 1st quarterWell it looks like the combo search engine/portal has reported a huge sales gain from last year. The reported strong performance in particular to search and marketplace properties plus and incremental increase following their acquisition of Overture on the 4th quarter of 2003. With advertising on their search component (w/ overture), they are able to gain great revenue streams like Google (with pay per click) But, what sets them apart is their portal component that lists like a directory of universal systems. This portal component alone grosse 1.62 billion in 2003 revenues (71 percent up from 2002). So, it seems that marketing is becoming a stronger and stronger component for all business types on the internet...especially systems throught the search component. Yahoo! has made $545 million in the 4th quarter to create an 84 percent gain in 2003. This is, of course, comparing to their slumpy 2002 season. So, what does yahoo's revenues teach small business? If you don't market these days, you don't make it. Make sure to market in multiple directions, both online and offline. If you take the plunge enough, you'll find your niche and gain clients with ease. |
