GoDaddy.com website down
According to CNET news today, GoDaddy, one of the largest domain name registration services, was down. Here are the details:

"GoDaddy.com was hit with a denial-of-service attack Wednesday morning, prompting 600,000 of its customers' hosted Web sites to go dark for roughly an hour. GoDaddy, which also is a domain registrar and reseller, said e-mail service was also disrupted for some of its 4 million customers.

The DOS attack hit at 5:49 a.m. and lasted approximately 65 minutes, said Bob Parsons, GoDaddy's chief executive. GoDaddy is hit with DOS attempts every day, but the attack on Wednesday was three times larger than previous attempts, Parsons said."

It goes to show that even the biggest of companies can go down at anytime. So, anyone who states they are up 100% is just asking for a lawsuit. However, it's good to know that Bob Parsons isn't afraid to answer the public on this.

Top traffic generators for the 2005 holiday season
According to CNet News:

"eBay enjoyed the highest number of unique visitors the day after Thanksgiving--known as Black Friday by retailers--according to Nielsen/NetRatings. The e-commerce titan drew 9.5 million unique visitors, followed by Amazon.com with 4.6 million visitors and Wal-Mart Stores with 3.4 million."

that's right - Ebay got 9.5 million unique users, Amazon.com got 4.6 million visitors & wal-mart got 3.4 million.

This is a definite plus for businesses listed in amazon & Ebay. But remember the restrictions...

Finally! Create online statistics free for clients
"Google Analytics tells you everything you want to know about how your visitors found you and how they interact with your site."

And what is amazing is that it is free. For web developers, analysis tools were always expensive and time-consuming to install. This new software (used in conjunction with urchin software architecture) changes everything. And, it's the only web analytics system that integrates with Google Adwords.

The only drawback? It's too damn popular!

"Over the last week, we've experienced extraordinarily high demand for Google Analytics, so much that we've had to disable new signups to ensure the best possible user experience for our customers. We are aware that some of our users have experienced a slow-down in seeing their reporting data due to the huge demand, and we're working hard to make report data as fresh and current as possible."

More later...until then, here are some more features of the system:

Free.
Spend on marketing, not on web analytics.

Sophisticated Analytics.
Google Analytics has all the features you'd expect from a high-end analytics offering. It also provides tightly integrated AdWords support, so you can view AdWords ROI metrics without having to import cost data or add keyword tracking codes.

Easy to use.
Google Analytics is easy to use for novice marketers, while delivering all of the capabilities that experienced web analytics professionals expect.

Scalable for any size site.
Google Analytics is a hosted service that runs on the same servers that power Google. From large, high-traffic corporate sites to small sites, Google Analytics delivers consistent service.

Integrated with AdWords.
If you have an AdWords account, you can use Google Analytics directly from the AdWords interface. Google Analytics also calculates ROI metrics from automatically imported cost and keyword tracking data, saving you time.

Tracks all campaigns.
Google Analytics tracks all online campaigns, from emails to keywords, regardless of search engine or referral source.

Safe.
Google takes the trust people place in us very seriously, and is pledged to safeguard the privacy of your corporate data. We understand that web analytics data is sensitive information, so we accord it the ironclad protection it deserves. Read our industry leading privacy policy.
